Arenal

Hot Springs and spectacular views of the majestic Arenal Volcano

This area offers spectacular views of a majestic cone-shaped volcano. Rising to 1,633 meters above sea level, over the forest that surrounds its base, the Arenal Volcano frames the horizon with an almost perfect symmetry. You will find great landscapes as you drive through the northern plains with views of a wind-blown lake and pristine cloud forest reserves. The climate in this particular region tends to be characterized by warm diurnal temperatures (low to mid 80) and relatively high humidity. There are intermittent rains that usually pass quickly. From late February to early May, the rain decreases in frequency allowing fantastic skyscapes during sunrise and sunset.

The Arenal Volcano National Park

It has a conical shape with a crater that spans 140 meters (460 feet) and is considered a young volcano and it is estimated that the age is less than 7,500 years. Although the volcano entered a resting phase in 2010, which means that its eruptions have stopped, it remains a dazzling sight. The 29,692-acre Arenal Volcano National Park (12,016 ha) protects both the Arenal Volcano and the inactive Chato Volcano. The park begins near Lake Arenal and has hiking trails and observation points for visitors to enjoy. In many ways, Lake Arenal is as monumental as the volcano that rises on its eastern shore. With an area of more than 33 square miles (85 square kilometers) and a depth of about 200 feet (60 meters), it is the largest body of water without sea in Costa Rica. As such, it offers ample opportunities for activities such as windsurfing, fishing, boating and more.

Experience more

There is a wide selection of steam springs along the National Park road for all budgets and tastes. And that’s not all, of the 850 bird species identified in Costa Rica, 600 are permanent residents in their region.
